Sci Fi Film Classics 2010 Calendar with 4 DVD's

Sci Fi Film Classics 2010 Calendar with 4 DVD's Review

Okay, let's get this out of the way right away... Most of these movies are all in the public domain, so they are easy enough to find on youtube or google vids if you want to watch them online. That said, the selection of movies and the transfers are actually surprisingly good! If you are someone that would rather watch some classic films from the comfort of your couch in front of your television, as opposed to sitting in your office chair watching a 5x3" video window on your monitor, than you'll probably appreciate having these films on dvd.

Admittedly, referring to some of the included features as 'science fiction' is a bit of a stretch. Some would be more widly recognized as classic horror, but even these features find their horror based in science fiction or science gone wrong.

There are some real gems here however... Metropolis and the Phantom Planet alone are both heavyweight classics of the genre and should be in every serious science fiction fan's collection (in some format or another).

As I noted earlier, the transfers are all suprisingly good. I was particularly surprised at the crispness of the Phantom Planet transfer along with a few others.

Factor in that you get a good quality wall calendar and this is a pretty good and fun investment. I have my calendar hanging beside my desk at work and in 3 or 4 short weeks, it has become a real conversation piece. Several clients have asked me where i got it and the indicated that they are going to look for this one or one of the other related calendars that the same company put out, including the horror calndar, the classic musical and the westerns.

Buster & Chauncey's Silent Night

Buster & Chauncey's Silent Night Review

My children love this video. They play it, just as most toddlers tend to, over and over. It is truly entertaining and portrays the true meaning of Christmas. The story centers around an orphan by the name of Christina. From a series of misadventures she learns about love and forgiveness. I heartily recommend this to all parents of small children.

Buster & Chauncey's Silent Night Overview

TWO MOUSE MUSICIANS TRAVEL TO A SMALL AUSTRIAN TOWN WHERE THEY HOPE TO PLAY DURING THE QUEEN'S HOLIDAY VISIT. SPECIAL FEATURES: FULL SCREEN VERSION, 2-CHANNEL DOLBY SURROUND AND STEREO SOUND, LANGUAGES: ENGLISH, FRENCH, SPANISH AND PORTUGUESE, SUBTITLES IN ENGLISH, FRENCH, SPANISH, PORTUGUES, CHINESE, KOREAN AND MORE.

Buster & Chauncey's Silent Night Specifications

This is a nicely animated musical that's loosely based on the true story of the composition of "Silent Night" in 1818 by Father Joseph Mohr and Choirmaster Franz Gruber. It's Christmas Eve and mouse-icians Buster and Chauncey are on their way to the town of Oberndorf to sing for the Queen. The whole town is a flutter with preparations, so imagine Burghermeister Huffenmeir's distress when the Duke of Raoche and his niece Lady Gretchen arrive a day early. Also newly arrived is Christina, an orphan girl on her way to Vienna in hopes of finding her aunt and uncle. When the Oberndorf treasure is found missing, all clues point to Christina, who steadfastly denies the charge. Father Joseph believes the girl, but it's up to Chauncey and Buster to prove her innocence and apprehend the real thieves. In the end, the Christmas celebration with the Queen is not as lavish as originally planned but proves much more meaningful. The town discovers that the true meaning of Christmas is not fame or fortune but friendship, sharing, and giving, and they celebrate their new wisdom by singing "Silent Night," a Christmas song composed by Father Joseph and Franz on that tumultuous Christmas Eve. This musical is full of compelling songs written by such great musical composers as Stephen Flaherty, Lynn Ahrens, Barry Harman, and Keith Herrmann. Voice talents Phil Hartman, Marie Osmond, and Tom Arnold add much to an already great production. What a wonderful way to communicate the meaning of Christmas. (Ages 3-12) --Tami Horiuchi
