Film Review: Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)

CONCLUSION: Technically, "Hot Tub Time Machine" is not a good movie, saw the holes in the story and stupidity, but is somewhat more than the sum of its parts, showing a lot of fun.

The Good: you might expect, the stupid comedy with this film its title, in which one, but director Steve Pink retains just enough of the gross-out antics and silly top-over observed to provide a movie that a lot of fun. After threemiddle-aged male friends and a nephew accidentally go back to the '80s, thanks to a supercharged hot tub, have not had an adventure for his business, which leads to hilarious results. First, it seeks to ensure that the time continuum is disturbed, but before long, things do not go according to plan. The sympathy of the cast makes this a winner, with John Cusack, who from the front. Their antics throughout the film, as well as their "knowledge" of time travel through 80 Sci-FiThe movie is hysterical. Another big plus for this film works is the 80 stars who appear here and there with Chevy Chase qualify as cryptic Whirlpool Mechanics and Crispin Glover as the servant with one arm as the great stand out. Glover is the source of a particularly hilarious running gag, where you can see many opportunities for him, where his arm is cut off, but it happens to end in an unlikely place. "Hot Tub Time Machine" is a surprising amountFun.

The bad: The highlight and finale of the film actually did not hit the right note. Although a great imagination, that the loser of the group Lou (Rob Corddry), remains behind in the 80s and uses his knowledge for the future, become a billionaire and change their lives for the better is fun, but somehow saw jokes as "Lougle" (instead of Google) and "Motley Lou" apparently not so funny.

Film Review: The Crazies (2010)

CONCLUSION: Although laudable for its subtlety and seriousness, "The Crazies" is an unhappy and lifeless take on the zombie film is forgettable vanish.

The Good: You know the drill with the zombie movie: infected humans, turning people into zombie virus that go on a killing spree. This version has also led the military in a good effect. Director Breck Eisner, the original George A. Romero film with a subtlety and RemakeSeriously is commendable and surprising. This film tries and sometimes fails to create suspense through performance rather than Gore and definitely bad make-up. The first scene, where Sherriff Dutton (Olyphant) in front of a local man with a gun to a baseball game quite compelling and lays the groundwork for what is inherent in the use of subtlety and power. The zombies have a more realistic look, infected by the virus, rather than blood and gutsdripping from every orifice. The scenes of killing, although brutal, are thinner than normal and very effective. These scenes are probably the ones that are most difficult to observe not the zombies, but by the military to shoot down one and all in their own way, even the innocent people who were not infected with the virus. Actor Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell to do what they can with the material and are very watchable. Joe Anderson is the best role in the film as the faithfulDeputy Sheriff, who slowly turns on his colleagues, but eventually made the sacrifice himself to save her if he had been infected and learn. "The Crazy" is the approach tries to take the usual comparison worthy zombie movie.

The bad: Zombie movies often vary their condition and "crazy" is no exception. In this regard, we have all seen here before. However, this is not an excuse for not having fun with the material, but unfortunatelyall that is devoid of life with this film, to pardon the pun. There is no spark or energy, except for a few exciting moments here and there to really pull you into action. As a result, this film feels very mechanical and decided to non-creepy. The ending leaves little room for improvement, it's inevitable that many of these films do these days, opening the possibility of a sequel. "The Crazy" is to forget, which is a shame, because here and momentswhere you can make a better film, what we have seen since.

Movie Review: Socks and Cake (2010)

Writer and director Anthony Padovano comedy / drama short socks and cake, is about five people who meet for dinner and the hidden truths about himself, a perceptive, intelligent short and boasts snappy dialogue, the camera fresh and sophisticated interplay .

Jeff Moffitt and Kirsty Meares star as husband and wife Richard and Amanda, who hosted a dinner in their loft apartment in Greenwich Village in Manhattan. Both are architects of success and whichthe appearance of a happy marriage, but, as we discover there are problems in paradise. One of the guests on hand for the party of Amanda's ex-husband, a professor of literature crumpled Harry (Timothy J. Cox), who in a little hole when it came to peace with which his life is looking for (also still has strong feelings for Amanda). The last two guests arrive David (Ben Prayz), a real estate company, the seller seems to go through life with the flash of a repellentSmile and his young, sexy girlfriend Sophie (Alex Vincent), we find, despite their young age, the person-centered and based the whole party.

Each is connected with this party: Richard and Amanda were married, Harry and Amanda were married, David and Amanda were at one time (perhaps the reason why Harry hates David) and now Richard would like to intimate intimate with Sophie. A nice party!

Writer Anthony Padovano provides a lot of witty observations onSex, religion and life, but the wit and cynicism, in most of the characters, especially Harry and Amanda, let's see, their insecurities, fears and doubts about how they lived their lives and what's on the Serbian them.

Alessandro Padovan and Penazzi, his cameraman filmed the movie takes a long, continuous, for which a flow of all the scenes that is very musical. It allows you to play with the actors invest their characters completely. The camera captures allbeautiful, especially the subtle moments in which it is weakest, such as dinner in the spectacular sequence shot.

The ensemble entirely convinced: When Harry, Timothy J. Cox creates a funny and sad portrait of a man who still loves his wife can not let go. As Richard, Jeff Moffitt clearly shows us a man for themselves, but is completely unaware of the fact that her marriage is over, while Ben Prayz taste like David feed his achievements, professional andPersonally, all the way with a smile on his face. When young Sophie, Alex proves to be Vincent, a joy, so that the intelligence, maturity and warmth to his role as Kirsten Amanda Meares floats like a performance, all from pulling the strings.

Although the film is only 15 minutes Socks Cakes and evidence that still tell an interesting story in a short period of time.

Film Review - Green Zone (2010)

CONCLUSION: "Green Zone" is not a movie preview of Bourne, as proposed, but turns out to be a great thriller, with honesty and authenticity, the issues of the war in Iraq and mismanagement of it by the Americans to get a winning the title and its goal of removing Saddam Hussein to get.

The Good: Matt Damon plays Chief Roy Miller at SU Army, Iraq investigated by his team for weapons of mass destructionDestruction in the weeks after the initial invasion in 2003. Miller is frustrated, because it will inspect each site based on the results void, and he begins to wonder what's going on. This is not good with his superiors, even if the CIA director Martin Brown (Brendan Gleeson) white on his part that "Intel" is wrong. Following his instincts, Miller goes alone to find out what happened and found a scandal that the law, which goesHeart of the reasons why America invaded Iraq. "Green Zone" is an excellent thriller, especially for its honesty and authenticity, both in production and in their performance. Damon particular act not only as a soldier is a soldier, and he makes you believe. The rest of the cast is also perfect on vocals. The scene of the sequences and attention to detail, be diligent and responsive. Although it is not shot in Iraq, the director Paul Greengrass creates images that reallyyou think you see the real thing, and the use of computer-generated images to fill the vacancy is hardly noticeable. The integration of the bombing invasion at the beginning of the film is virtually identical to the real footage that we saw on television. Green Grass consolidates his camera much more than in his previous films, and despite the extent that the handheld, the images are always clear, and we always know exactly where we are. Another important aspect is to observe that this filmgives you a good idea as all the films in the way of life, as soldiers on the ground in Iraq, they make you feel angry because they were there first, which is the central point of the film, which I left Washington officials used weapons of mass destruction as a pretext to invade the country and get rid of Saddam. The way in which the American media has been sucked into the lie is covered by a subplot with a journalist who reported on weapons of mass destruction on faulty intelligence. Miller asks aPoint: "Have you ever bothered to check the validity of your source?" to which she replies: "He was a high-ranking official in DC had the data." "Green Zone" is a winner, and is engaging from start to finish.

The Bad: The only problem with the movie is a dramatic overall impact of the prey, we all know what happened in Iraq. We know that there were no weapons of mass destruction, we know that the journey that each of Miller can not end with his death or not finding the WMD. Despite Green Grass'best efforts to enhance the drama and excitement of the story, the film is to know of us with disabilities that the search of Miller is in vain. The only dramatic climax we get, Miller said Defense Secretary Clark Poundstone "I know what you did," struck him in the mouth, and Miller to send knows what every news outlet in America. In addition to the "Green Zone" is to be seen on the big screen.

Movie Review - Edge of Darkness (2010)

Mel Gibson has a new movie called The Edge of Darkness. He plays a Boston police officer and is managed by his daughter, who is visiting his shot on the porch, after it mysteriously ill and must go to the doctor.

To be honest, this movie made me yawn a few times. I went back and forth, trying to discover whether there should be a fun movie or any kind of serious. The fight scenes (the few available) were pretty funny bookworm and shooting seemed strange. The problem, however, the drugs only history and so on.

I've always liked Mel Gibson. It 's a legend with such films as Lethal Weapon 1, 2, 3, 4 and big films like Braveheart and The Passion. There is a reason why it is very popular around the world. But the last movie just seemed to lack the element of his films are more realistic, not to mention the usual love-pounding action that we all come.

The Edge of Darkness, even if shot> 2010 and put at the same time, it seems old and antiquated. Most of the time I thought I saw some film of the 1980 cop instead of a more relevant.

With a terrible plot, terrible film, and finally, worst of all, I am glad that I did not pay money to see this movie. I feel robbed, robbed of two hours it took to fight through it. You should consider these strips above and maybe read a book or something.

Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010)

Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010) Review

I went into this film not knowing exactly what to expect - for one thing I had very little interest in the topic of Street Art, but I'd read an article about Banksy in the WSJ a while back and the film was recommended by a couple of friends. I'm glad I gave it a chance, as Exit Through the Gift Shop is a brilliant, hilarious, entertaining, and thought provoking documentary, or mockumentary - I'm not sure which. The film style reminds me of This Is Spinal Tap [Blu-ray] and Where's Marlowe?, although it's better done and funnier than both.

The characters are unforgettable - Banksy, who's face and voice are disguised, serves as a narrator of sorts and is the true mastermind behind the entire experiment. Banksy is excellent, but the star of the show is Thierry Guetta, a Frenchman who sets out to make a documentary on Street Art. I do not believe in narrating the story in my reviews due to spoiling the plot, but suffice it to say that Thierry has an overabundance of energy and passion for his work and the art he pursues but he lacks the organization and formal training (i.e. proper editing, narration) to produce a refined final work. Thierry's character is a classic underdog - a clueless yet talented (in some respects) dreamer that the audience can't help but root for. When Banksy and Thierry finally meet, Banksy turns the tables and Thierry the documenter becomes the documented, with hilarious results.

Exit Through the Gift shop is extremely funny - laugh out loud funny, from beginning to end. But unlike most comedies, Exit Through the Gift Shop actually asks a thought provoking question - What is Art? I'm not quite sure how to formulate my answer at this point, and the film certainly demands a second viewing, but through Thierry and the challenge he's set upon Bansky does an incredible job of framing the question.

I mentioned at the beginning of this review I didn't have much interest in the subject matter of Street Art, and moreover when I saw the film I dragged with me a friend and his wife who had even less interest than I. They went in with sort of a "really Adam, what are you getting us into?" attitude (along with 4th who went much more willingly) ... at the end of the film the four of us looked at each other and simultaneously mouthed "wow". I haven't done any research on the film after the fact and honestly I can't tell you how much of this "documentary" is staged/preplanned/hoax and how much is real (my guess is something in the middle), but either way it was well worth the price of admission.

Exit Through the Gift Shop is excellent - hilarious, thought provoking, and most importantly it includes original and genuinely likable characters. Whether you're interested in Street Art or into the "indie" film scene or not, this one is worth buying, and I say that as someone who doesn't buy very many DVDs/Bluray in the age of netflix.

Five stars.

Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010) Overview

It wouldn't be in character for British street artist Banksy to reveal all, even in a film about his work--nor would it be legally prudent. Instead, the elusive stencil-master, face concealed via hoodie, shines a light on amateur documentarian Thierry Guetta. Based in Los Angeles, the French-born bon vivant films everything. On a trip to Paris, he follows his cousin Space Invader around as he affixes his video-game mosaics to walls throughout the city. As he says in retrospect, "I liked the danger." A vintage clothing shop proprietor, he decides he's found his new calling and returns to record other artists, like Shepard Fairey, who found fame through his Orwellian "Obey" image, which features André the Giant (Fairey later designed Obama's "Hope" portrait). Through Fairey, Guetta meets Banksy, whose visage remains a mystery. Guetta captures him in his studio, on the streets, and during preparations for his "Barely Legal" exhibit, at which Brad Pitt and Jude Law make appearances, but things fall apart after an ill-fated trip to Disneyland, where Banksy pulls a stunt that references Guantánamo Bay. Afterward, he encourages the videographer to mount his own show, which yields unexpected results. If it seems as if Banksy is making fun of Guetta, he mostly holds a mirror up to hipsters who'll fall for anything deemed cool (like this film). Narrated by Rhys Ifans, Exit preserves Banksy's anonymity while biting the hand that feeds--with wit and humor. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Daybreakers (2010) Movie Review - A Vampire Thriller Film

Well now I can breathe a sigh of relief. There are people out there in the world of film who still understand the concept of vampires and know how to create an original yet also incredibly entertaining genre movie that STAYS TRUE TO THE CONCEPT they're working with. I can't even begin to describe how satisfying it was to see the sun come up and a vampire burn alive because of it, and that was just in the first 5 minutes. If the character had sparkled I would have walked out of the theater, and there's something to be said for respecting decades worth of your peer's work. Sure every author creates their own interpretation of the vampire myth, and even though people like Anne Rice get a lot of credit for the state of vampire legend prior to Twilight (I'd like to give a shout out to whoever coined the phrase Twi-hards, by the way), a new rash of films and television shows have recently started to bend the rules of the long dormant cultural icons.

Combining the vampire aesthetic with a 28 Days Later inspired outbreak backstory, the Spierig Brothers (whose first feature Undead was hailed as a promise of greater things to come) have brought us a vision of the future of the vampire phenomenon, the logical continuation of a concept in which the whole world becomes infected, the humans are in the minority (considering they are capable of dying from natural causes) and are being farmed for blood. The only problem is that the blood supply is running out, and Ethan Hawke is a scientist in search of an acceptable substitute. What happens next, is one hell of a wild ride, and if there's anything general that can be said about the film as a whole, it's that it occasionally spends too much time having fun, and too little time developing the story.

Where the film truly shines is in its visual style. Sprinkle in a blue tinged color palette for the night photography t reminiscent of Underworld, add Willem Dafoe to breathe life into the human resistance and deliver all kinds of terrific one-liners, and top it all off with some gnarly creature effects and more blood splattering kills than the average war film, and now you're starting to get the sense of what kinds of notes Daybreakers manages to hit. It also has one of the more promising opening acts of the last few years, deftly establishing its tone and goals while simultaneously putting the audience on edge with a series of calculated scares and intense cinematography. It does unravel a bit after that, but the set up is everything you'd hope from this kind of movie.

Which brings us to the Achilles heel of the film, the editing. Aside from the opening act which is so full of exposition it would be hard for a studio to chop stuff out without losing important story components and is therefore the film's strongest portion, the rest of the movie suffers from its clearly targeted 90 minute runtime. Some films need an extra half an hour to breath and linger, and Daybreakers aches from a lack of room to do so. Character jumps are more severe than they seem intended to be, and the whole last act goes by at a blistering pace, making leaps in logic and flashing forward in its own chronology to the point that the audience is left questioning what they just missed. The final confrontation is sorely lacking in set-up, not because there wasn't any that got shot, but because I can see the studio note floating in the middle of the screen "Get To The End Faster." I'd be very interested in seeing the work in its entirety, and not unlike Kurt Wimmer's recent stylized vampire flick Ultraviolet, there may be a certain amount of the producers and the studio not really getting what it is they have, trying to force the film into a mold that really doesn't apply.

What I want you to take away from this review is that Daybreakers is a ton of fun. It's a blast, exactly the kind of entertainment you need in the studio "dump months" of January and February, and though it won't stay with you very long after you see it, the experience is entirely enjoyable, something the depressed Oscar season tends to forget about. Grab some popcorn, take a seat, and strap yourself in. If I had to pick Six Flags or Daybreakers, the vampires would get my vote in this round... though I'm so down to get on a roller coaster to avoid Twilight The Third in June.

Jack & The Beanstalk (2010) (Ws Sub Ac3 Dol)

Jack & The Beanstalk (2010) (Ws Sub Ac3 Dol) Review

I wanted to jump into this and write a review mostly because of the overt hostility of two of the current reviewers. I guess I am at a loss for their angst. We rented it and my three kids (4,6,8) really liked it so we wanted to buy it and I stumbled on the horrible reviews. Another reviewer has done a nice job summarizing the story and characters but the brief review: This is a fun and family friendly movie for the late preschool crowd and up (the giant and his henchman might be scary for some early preschoolers or toddlers but they are overall pretty mild). It is not Shakespeare, it is not an action movie, it is simply a silly and fun little take on the Jack and the Beanstalk story. If you want something else or expect it, you will be disappointed. Yes the goose who lays the golden egg is Gilbert Gottfried but to comment on the one reviewers anger, I really think they cast a man in the role because Gilbert has such a distinctive voice and is recognized from many other children's characters especially birds like Cyberchase-Digit and Aladdin-Iago). I do not believe it should be a call to arms to boycott the movie. Sure they could have found a great female and sure it was a little weird having a male goose lay an egg but he did a great job and my kids did not make anything of it. I think there were some clever ideas thrown in there. The "COW" he sells is a computer game system like a playstation (COW is an acronym). Chevy Chases character is funny. The idea of Jack's dad being a hero by sacrifice is in there, also Jack does not know this initially so he is told by everyone he will amount to nothing but he overcomes this and believes in himself, making others believe in him as well. Not bad. Anyway a fun, silly movie to watch with the family.

Jack & The Beanstalk (2010) (Ws Sub Ac3 Dol) Overview

A hilarious live-action family comedy.
A fairy tale character who is about to flunk out of fairy tale school, Jack must perform a heroic deed by Monday or fail miserably, just like his father before him. Anxious to make good, Jack sells his C.O.W. (Computer of Wonder) for a handful of magic beans and a mysterious book that records his adventures as he's having them. Accompanied by his sidekick Grayson -- a goose who ate a bean and underwent an amazing transformation -- Jack climbs the magic beanstalk to recover the fabled Harp of Destiny from the evil Giant who lives in the sky. Helping Jack on his perilous quest is the spunky Jillian, a fearless young girl whom Jack meets on his journey -- and who just may have a hidden agenda.
